微软发布首个Microsoft SQL Server 2008 CTP
微 软数据库定名SQL Server2008 微软下一代数据库系统的开发代号为“Katmai”，其正式名称一直没有确定，6月4日，微软正式将其定名为Microsoft SQL Server 2008，也和之前的一些产品名称命名方式类似，如Longhorn Server就定名为Windows Server 2008。
Microsoft SQL Server 2008将大大提高与Office Excel2007、ExcelServices、Office SharePoint Server、Office PerformancePointServer2007等产品的集成与协作，还会包含Visual Studio集成开发环境和新的.NET Framework。
SQL Server 2008将支持概念编程,其它改进包括增加了对各种数据类型的支持，如空间和非结构化数据。
