2009年发表在NEJ的文献Genome-wide Association Studies and Human Disease，提到了各种基因组关联分析的技术（如表达谱array、全基因组SNP array、高通量测序技术），以及这些技术的应用。
表达谱arrary：用杂交技术检测基因的表达；
全基因组SNP array：genotyping of <500,000 SNPs may allow a nearly complete survey of all common genetic variability。该方法认为单个snp可以预测相邻snp的情况，所以，用不到50万个snp可以检测所有的基因变异点。（人类平均每100-1000个碱基会出现一个SNP，约3千万～300百万个snp）
高通量测序技术
科学上的进步包括：Sequencing of the human genome, HapMap,1000 Genomes项目，GTEx项目（各种人组织的gene-expression数据集）。
