Newton's method

Newton's method is primarily a method for finding the zeros of a function, say f(w), that is, a method for finding solutions to the equation f(w)=0. The method consists of starting with an initial guess, w0, and then using the first derivative, f'(w0), to compute the next estimate, w1. w1 is found where the tangent at f(w0) intersects the w-axis.
