Windows Server 2008 R2 于 2009年十月22日release.

跟Windows 7一样, R2构建于Windows NT 6.1之上.

新特性包括:

• 新的virtualization features
• 新的Active Directory features,
• IIS 7.5,
• 支持 256 个处理器.
• 移除了对32位处理器的支持.
