appellant:  a person who applies to a higher court for a reversal of the decision of a lower court.

appellee: the respondent in a case appealed to a higher court.

petitioner: a person who makes a formal application to a court for a writ, judicial action in a suit, etc.

respondent: a respondent is a person who is called upon to issue a response to a communication made by another. 

legal opinion:  a legal opinion is a written statement by a judicial officer, legal expert or a court as to the illegibility or legibility of a condition, intendant or action. In business, an opinion letter represents the opinion giver’s professional understanding of a particular aspect of a transaction or a specific transaction based on legal principles.

affirm <----> reverse 

remand : In law, to remand is to send a case back to be reconsidered by another court.
