围棋是两个人玩的一种棋盘游戏，于2500年前起源于中国。围棋规则相对简单，但十分富有策略性。对弈双方在棋盘网格的交叉点上交替防止黑色和白色的棋子，围棋盘由19条纵横线组成。对弈以所围“地”的大小决定胜负。落子完毕后，棋子不能移动。被包围的棋子则被撤下。考古发现，早期围棋是在17*17的棋盘上进行的，但自从围棋传入韩国和日本后，19*19成为棋盘的标准。
Go is a board game for two players that originated in/from China more than 2,500 years ago. The game is noted/famous for being rich in strategy(策略) despite its relatively simple rules. The two players alternately place black and white playing pieces(棋子) on the vacant intersections(交叉口) of a grid of 19*19 lines. The object of the game is to use one's stones to surround a larger total area of the board than the opponent(对手). Once placed on the board, stones may not be moved, but stones are removed from the board if captured(捕获). Achaeological evidence shows that the early game was placed on a board with a 17*17 grid, but by the time the game had spread to Korea anf Japan, in about the 5th anf 7th centuries CE respectively(分别地), boards with a 19*19 grid had become standard.
